Review of Guitar Colloquium Saturday 19th May

What a pleasure to spend some time with the ever entertaining and supremely talented Innes Watson.

Abriachan village hall was the latest location to host his ongoing guitar colloquium project and was attended by a mixture of fiddlers and guitarists of a wide range of ages and abilities.

The idea behind the project is to get people playing together and Innes quickly put everyone at ease as he explained just what we were going to spend the next two hours accomplishing.

He patiently guided us through the different parts of his arrangement of waiting for the Feds and we were soon playing as an ensemble.

Time passed very quickly and thanks must also go to the band members, Barry, Chas and Ali, who helped us navigate learning the arrangement.

In the end I think we all felt a sense of satisfaction with what we had achieved with Innes’ arrangement sounding very full and melodious.

However that was not the end of our musical day. In the evening, now joined by Steve (who had lugged in all the gear and miraculously fitted it all into the tiny space that was the stage) we were treated to a concert from this set of talented musicians.

The set was varied, the band were tight and the sound was rich and full.

At the start of the second half the newly formed Abriachan Ensemble performed their newly arranged piece, before slipping quietly back into the audience.

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. Thank you to all those involved in organising this event at that very special venue – Abriachan Village Hall.

If you get a chance to attend one of the next workshops or gigs I would thoroughly recommend it.
