InnoDuo – a new duet with Rory Matheson

Very excited to share something exciting and new with the world very soon.

In May we are doing a short run of gigs mainly based on my albums to date. My first album Glasgows Guitar Colloquium was released in 2018…6 years and so much has happened.

We’ve had a global pandemic which saw me run for the hills (still there and enjoying the Highlands more than ever). I released a lock down album; recorded entirely on my mobile phone microphone and edited on an outdated Apple MacBook Pro, mixed and mastered by Andrea Gobbi at Carrier Waves.

I joined the Peatbog Faeries!

I was involved in a prime time BBC tv show called “Take a Hike” which still draws people out to Peatbog Faeries gigs and was repeated recently.

My partner and I had a baby and lost her at 4 days old. Imogen Mae Archer Watson was in our lives for such a short time but changed us forever. That hit us extremely hard, as you might expect.

That wasn’t to be the end of the brutality of nature as my partner was in a head-on collision with a tourist driving on the wrong side of the road. Recovery for her is ongoing and, although he has been charged with dangerous driving, Sarah life will never be the same again.

Before the crash, though, Sarah did book us this tour in May!

I’ll be touring material from both the albums and some new stuff too with my very good friend and world-class pianist Rory Matheson. He is quite frankly one of the best musicians you’ll hear and it is an honour to have him along for the next adventure!

Much more to come in the run up to these gigs. We’ve been recording all sorts of video for you to peruse prior to purchasing your tickets for the performances.

Solo

This year, as we’ve a pandemic on our plates, I’ve decided to focus some of my efforts on solo performance. I’ve been a team player for most of my career thus far and although I’ve done a little bit of solo gigging it is now time to try and make that one of the strings to my bow indefinitely.

Some days are easier than others where this is concerned and I’d like to think there’s a few folk out there would like to hear what I’ve got to say. In case you didn’t know, I’m a song writer now. Boo and Findlay said so.

“fully qualified” see

So on top of working up to live streaming short spots of “witty banter” and song singing, I’m looking at adding some gigs to my diary when it is safe to do so – next year (perhaps later this year if we’re lucky).

I kind of imagine picking up other performers as I go along, I’m very lucky to have worked on the skillset of “playing well with others”. It said so on most of my report cards at school and, aw yeah of course, that’s what I spent the first 10-15 years of my career focussing on! I’m always up for sharing the stage and having company playing all sorts of material.

I was once lucky enough to accompany Tim O’Brien as he was doing a solo spot at the festival club of Celtic Colours International Festival in Cape Breton, 2007/8. I loved that he just dragged me up on stage for a tune and that’s right up my street. I can play anything with anyone (to a certain extent!)

Here we go!
